Highlighted in this lot is an incredibly rare road blue 1969 Marty Pattin Seatle Pilots jersey, their only year in existence. The Pilots were an expansion team and played the 1969 season in Seattle but the team would go bankrupt, sold, and move to Milwaukee before the start of the 1970 season. The transition was so late, the Brewers kept the same jersey design only swapping out "Pilots" for "Brewers" and removing the Pilots logo on the front of the jersey. This attractive road blue Marty Pattin jersey was made by Spalding (The home's were made by Wilson) and has the Spalding & size 42 swatches sewn into the lower left front tail as well as the dry clean instructions and "Set 1 1969" flag tag. The "Pattin 42" swatch is all original and sewn into the collar. The #33 is sewn on the back and is also all original. The "Seattle" sewn on the front as well as the Pilots logo have been professionally restored which is the norm for this season as so many jerseys were simply stripped of the "Seattle" while adding "Brewers". The Pilot logos and 100 year Anniversary patches were also removed but the rest of the jersey remained the same for the 1970 Brewers. Due to the fact that this was done professionally, it is difficult to notice any remnants, which makes for a spectacular display piece. Adding to the collectibility of this 1 year Pilots jersey is the fact that Marty Pattin was a former All Star pitcher and was the opening day starter wearing a road blue Pilots jersey on April 8th, 1969 in Anaheim. Pattin was the winning pitcher that day as the Pilots defeated the angels 4-3. Given this is a set 1 jersey from 1969, this could actually be the jersey worn by Pattin on that memorable day. Aesthetically appealing and highly sought after jersey from one of the most unusual seasons in baseball history.
