This lot features three lengthy handwritten correspondences between U.L. Pettit and his family during the "War of 1812". The letters are dated August 20th, 1811, November 1st, 1812 and March 23rd, 1813. It is truly amazing that these letters have survived over 200 hundred years. It is fascinating the read these letters and to get an inside view of what it was like from Pettit's perspective as he was participating in the war so far away from his beloved family. The letters have remained in remarkable condition given its age. The War of 1812 lasted for two-and-a-half years and fought by the United States of America against the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, its North American colonies and its American Indian allies. Incredible opportunity to acquire a piece of American history.
