Unique vintage lot of 2 Damon Runyon Cancer Memorial Fund Raiser games. Runyon was a popular journalist during the prohibition era. The game was created to raise funds to help fight cancer as you could purchase ticket for a penny apiece with the proceeds going to "Arrest Cancer". After Runyon's death in 1946, his friend and fellow journalist, Walter Winchell, went on his radio program and appealed for contributions to help fight cancer, eventually establishing the “Damon Runyon Cancer Memorial Fund” to support scientific research into causes of, and prevention of cancer. The first ever telethon was hosted by Milton Berle in 1949 to raise funds for the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. It remains one of the biggest research foundations to this day. Very unique pieces of American history and the continual fight against cancer.
