The books remain intact which can be expected given they are hundreds of years old. Edward Gibbons originally wrote these books in 6 volumes spanning 14 years. They trace the trajectory of Western civilization (as well as the Islamic and Mongolian conquests) from the height of the Roman Empire to the fall of Byzantium.
