This lot features a rare, vintage Springfield model 1896 Krag-Jorgensen rifle. This Springfield Model Krag-Jorgensen rifle was produced from 1892-99 and is a Norwegian designed bolt action rifle that was adopted in 1892 as the standard United States Army military longarm, chambered in U.S. caliber .30-.40 Krag. All versions and variants were manufactured under license by the Springfield Armory between 1892 and 1903. The U.S. Krag was replaced beginning in 1903 with the introduction of the M1903 Springfield rifle. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer example as this one still has about 98% of original blueing. The rifle remains in remarkable condition especially when you consider that it is 118 years old. Estimate value $2,900.
