Springfield 1836 Model Rifle

This lot features an original Springfield Model 1836 Flintlock Musket Rifle. This antique has The Eagle on the right side lock plate with U. S. Underneath. This has "Springfield 1836" behind the Hammer on the same side. There is a "U.S." on the top of the Butt Plate. This rifle is a 69 caliber and has the cleaning rod. Very rare to find these in the original flintlock form as they where converted to percussion during the civil war. The rifle remains in remarkable condition considering the fact that it is 178 years old. Estimate value $1,700.
