Offered in this lot is a Roger Maris Louisville Slugger professional model A92 bat from the memorable 1961 season in which Maris broke Babe Ruth's record of 60 HR's in a single season. This wide grain signature model Maris bat measures 35 inches, weighs 33.75 ounces and shows outstanding use with ball marks, stitch marks and cleat marks while remaining uncracked. Maris ordered this exact model 5 times during the 1961 season. The reason this bat can be pinpointed to the 1961 season is that on September 5th, 1961, Maris started having his bats flamed burned and they were marked accordingly. This bat has the same wide grain and specs but is not flamed burned so it is tied to one of 5 bat orders between March 14th and July 1st, 1961. Maris also ordered the A92 model in 1964 but did so with "mark weights". This bat doesn't have marked weights so it is directly tied to the 1961 season making it historically significant indeed. The bat has been professionally authenticated and graded an A6.5 by MEARS. It was given the maximum 8 points for matching Maris factory ordering records and having heavy use while remaining uncracked. There was 1.5 points deducted for discolored, chipped knob for a final grade of 6.5. The MEARS LOA and worksheet is included detailing how this bat is specifically tied to the 1961 season. Roger Maris is among the most revered Yankees of All Time and this bat was from his most memorable record breaking 61 HR and American League MVP season.
