This lot features a Roberto Clemente 1962 Pittsburgh Pirates Louisville Slugger signature model U1 bat exhibiting excellent overall use. The bat measures 36 inches, weighs 33.1 ounces and exhibits outstanding use with numerous ball marks, deeply embedded ball stitch impressions, green bat rack marks, deep cleat marks, grain swelling from repeated ball contact, professionally repaired handle crack, U1 model stamped into the knob as well as Clemente's #21 written on the knob in faded black marker. The U1 model was a staple of Clemente's and his H&B personal bat ordering records verify that he ordered this specific bat in 1962. High end Clemente bats are elusive for 3,000 Hit Club and vintage bat collectors. Clemente began his Hall of Fame career with the Pirates in 1955 and had his life tragically taken from him in 1972 when he was taking supplies to earthquake ravaged Nicaragua on December 31st, 1972. This is one that you won't want to let pass as it has earned a near perfect 9 grade from PSA/DNA and is the ideal Clemente bat from the prime of his career. The bat is accompanied by PSA/DNA Authentication grading the bat a GU 9. Spectacular Roberto Clemente bat used by the 3,000 Hit Club member early on in his 18-year Hall of Fame career.
