This lot features the actual Corvette that escorted Kirby Puckett around the Metrodome back on September 7th, 1996 when the Minnesota Twins held his retirement ceremony in front of a completely sold-out crowd at the dome. It was an amazing night that every Twins fan remembers with both sadness and elation. The car has been preserved remarkably well and still sits at only 30,463 miles. This incredibly sharp 1987 red Corvette convertible is loaded with red leather seats, power windows, power door locks, power seats, cruise control, twin remote heated mirrors, illuminated driver visor, electronic air conditioner, Bose radio, a 5.7-liter engine, 4 speed automatic transmission, brand new tires and aluminum wheels. Kirby was very thankful for the escort and penned a huge autograph on the hood of the car in black marker that reads: "Puckett's Farewell Night at the Dome, Kirby Puckett 96', Set. 7th". Kirby addressed the fans at the dome by saying: "I'm here to tell Lou Gehrig, The Iron Horse, that tonight Kirby Puckett is the luckiest man in the world". Truly a piece of Minnesota Twins and Kirby Puckett history etched into the minds and hearts of every Twins fan. The hood with massive Puckett autograph and inscription is priceless in itself.
There is also an actual ticket from this memorable game that has been signed by Puckett available in this auction that would be a nice complement to this rare treasure. Lot #1388:
