This lot features a Kirby Puckett 1984 game used Minnesota Twins rookie cap. This blue cap has the Twins "TC" logo embroidered on the front. New Era tag is sewn in the headband, which also features size 7 1/8 written in black. Puckett’s number “34” and "K. PUCKETT" are written on the underside of the brim in severely faded black marker. This cap shows quality overall wear though much of the wear was from another player, Bobby Castillo (#37 was later written in black marker). Puckett was called up abruptly and was given this cap to wear temporarily. He only wore it for a short time as the team wore the red caps with blue brims in '84 much more often than the solid blue caps. Bobby Castillo would end up giving the hat most of its use. Puckett was called up on May 8th, 1984 in the middle of a series against the California Angels while Bobby Castillo pitched his first game of the season on July 7th, 1984. It was discovered by the Twins in their inventory in the mid 90's and sold through their Pro Shop to our consignor. The cap was later shown to Puckett by our consignor and he obliged by signing the outside brim in silver marker. Very popular rookie Puckett game used hat. Likely the first, if not one of the first hats he ever wore in the big leagues. Accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from the Minnesota Twins.
