This lot features a Johnny Unitas signed check made out to Karen Miller for $70. Signed in the lower right corner "John C. Unitas" in black pen. Rare Johnny Unitas signed check as these were all but obsolete until the Unitas Family recently decided to make this available. Check collecting has become very popular due to the fact that these are personal to the athlete and offer an opportunity to acquire a guaranteed authentic signature. This one is especially desirable as it was acquired from the Johnny Unitas Collection.

Johnny U. played from 1956 to 1973 and is heralded as one of the greatest NFL players of all time. He set many NFL records and was named the NFL MVP 3 times in 1959, 1964, and 1967, in addition to making 10 Pro Bowls and receving five 1st team All-Pro honors. Unitas helped lead the Colts to 4 championship titles in 1958, 1959, and 1968 (pre-NFL/AFL merger) and one in Super Bowl V. His 1st championship victory in 1958 is regarded as “The Game of the Century” and is credited with helping popularize the NFL. Between 1956 and 1960. Unitas set the record for most consecutive games with a touchdown pass at 47, which held for 52 years until Drew Brees broke it back in 2012. Accompanied by a Johnny Unitas Collection Letter of Provenance as well as JSA/James Spence Authentication Auction Letter of Authenticity.
