Unique boxing lot highlighting the July 4th, 1923 boxing match between heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey and underdog Tom Gibbons, a native of St. Paul, Minnesota. Gibbons would give the champ all he could handle that 4th of July as the grueling match went 15 rounds. Dempsey would eventually prevail. This lot features 2 St. Paul newspapers, one is the late edition from July 4th and the other is the July 5th morning edition. Also included is an actual ticket from the match that cost $40 in 1923! Incredibly rare piece of boxing memorabilia. The newspapers and ticket show their age nearly a century later. Great addition to the finest of boxing collections.
