But, Florida ended up with a 92-70 record, winning the N.L. *Wild Card* and going on to sweep the S.F. Giants in the NLDS. They went on to beat the heavily favored Atlanta Braves (who won 101 -games), in the NLCS, in just 6 games. The Marlins went on to play the powerful Cleveland Indians in the World Series who took them to the limit, as they defeated them in 7 games. Managed by Jim Leyland, and with the likes of quite a few past & present *All-Stars* (Bobby Bonilla, Gary Sheffield, Kevin Brown, Devon White, Alex Fernandez, Moises Alou, Charles Johnson, Jeff Conine, Edgar Renteria, Al Leiter, Robb Nen, & Luis Castillo), the Marlins won the World Series in just their 5th season in the Majors.
