This lot features a MacGregor Sand Knit size 42 Dražen Petrovic 1989 Portland Trail Blazers game used rookie jersey with 2 inches of added body length. The jersey is all original with no alterations and shows quality overall use. The Portland Trail Blazers, MacGregor Sand Knit size 42, "89" year swatch and 2 inches added length swatches are all sewn in to the lower left front tail. Petrovic was the "Original European Superstar". He was traded to the Nets during his 2nd season and would average over 20 pts per game with the Nets and become an NBA All-Star. Named one of FIBA’s 50 greatest players in 1991. Petrovic won 2 silver medals in 1988 and 1992 and 1 bronze 1984 in Summer Olympic Games. He was 1986 MVP of the FIBA World Championship and also 1989 MVP of FIBA EuroBasket . He was twice named Mr. Europa. Petrovic died tragically in a car accident on June 7, 1993 at the age of only 28. Petrovic was posthumously inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 2002. He is largely responsible for opening the door for other European players to enter and thrive in the NBA.
