This lot features Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven’s High School Letterman’s jacket. Graduating from Santiago High School in Garden Grove, California in 1969 Blyleven was a three sport star lettering in: Baseball, Basketball and Cross Country. The patch on the front of the jacket is from winning the Garden Grove League in Baseball during his Junior season in ’68. The pins on the “S” represent the sports he lettered in.

Blyleven began to attract major league scouts by the end of his junior season and in the American Legion league. He had at least two no-hitters and an amazing 21 strikeout game during his high school career. Blyleven earned all-league honors as a senior and was a regular player in local prospect camps in California. In the end the Minnesota Twins drafted Blyleven in the third round with the 55th pick overall in the 1969 amateur draft. One short year later on June 5, 1970 he was making his big league debut and collecting his first win in the MLB. 22 seasons later he ended his career where he currently sits 27th overall in wins (287) and 5th in strikeouts (3,701) and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011.

** This lot originates from the personal collection of Bert Blyleven and will be accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from Bert Blyleven. Please know that a portion of your bid will go towards charities supported by Bert and his wife Gayle **
