Description: This lot features a Satchel Paige 1969 Atlanta Braves road flannel game used spring training jersey exhibiting quality overall use. The jersey has "BRAVES" across the front and "65" on back with blue-on-red numbering. The Braves team logo patch is properly located on the left sleeve with the MLB patch adorning the right sleeve. The Wilson size 40 swatch and 1969 tear swatch are sewn into the lower left front tail. Nice late career flannel of Hall of Famer Satchel Paige.

Accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema authenticating its use. Miedema concludes: This is to verify, in my opinion, the game-used status of the item cited above as submitted by VSA. The jersey was made by Wilson and is a size 40 which was the norm for Satchell Paige in this era. Spalding was the normal supplier for the road Braves uniforms in this era but the Minnesota Twins, also users of the Spalding road uniforms at this time, did order and use road uniforms from Wilson in the late 1960's for spring training games. Photo evidence confirms that Paige wore #65 for Atlanta in 1968-69. While Paige never pitched for the Braves during the regular season either year, he did start a handful of games in 1969 spring training and was a pitching coach for them in both 1968 and 1969, although in the latter year, most of Paige's coaching duties were not on-field with the team. Also, a handful of teams in spring training 1969 did wear the MLB 100th Anniversary patch on their jerseys and jackets so the presence of one on this jersey is not a red flag. The jersey shows moderate wear. Therefore, in my opinion, this is a game used 1969 Braves road spring training jersey of #65 Satchel Paige.
