This lot features a Johan Santana 2006 Venezuela World Baseball Classic game used and twice signed jersey from his memorable American League Cy Young Award-winning season. Santana has signed the front with a "Game Used 2006" inscription as well as the back. Johan is a member of the Minnesota Twins Hall of Fame. Originally purchased from MLB Auctions for $2,951 in 2006. Johan Santana, one of the most dominant pitchers of his era, had an impressive showing during the 2006 World Baseball Classic (WBC) for Team Venezuela. In a game against Team USA on March 15, 2006, Santana put on a masterful performance, pitching five shutout innings while striking out six batters and allowing just two hits. He was dominant from the outset, striking out the side in the first inning and retiring the first nine batters he faced. Santana's performance helped Venezuela secure a 6-0 victory over the heavily-favored American team, and he was named the Player of the Game for his efforts. Santana's success in the WBC helped solidify his reputation as one of the best pitchers in the game at that time and helped raise the profile of international baseball.
