This rare 33 year old ring is from SMU's impressive 10-1 Season in which they finished 5th in the Nation. Led by perhaps, the best rushing attack in the country with Eric Dickerson who had an impressive 1,428 yards rushing and 19 TD's while his running mate Craig James added another 1,147 yards with 9 TD's. Made by Jenkins, this solid 10K gold ring has a translucent royal blue stone mounted on top with a mustang laser cut into the stone and 9 CZ diamonds arranged around the top. All of the correct Jenkins markings are engraved inside (Jenkins 10K) of this Size 11 ring which weighs in at 25.1 grams. James Mobley's name appears on the side shank. The Mustangs scored 365 points while their defense only allowed 137 points. Many college football historians are quick to point out that SMU was arguably the best team in the nation in 1981. One of the main reasons for SMU's great defense was James Mobley himself, who was an All SWC Player at SMU in '81 with 5 interceptions his senior year. By season’s end, the Mustangs were given the National Championship Foundation's (NCF) "National Championship." They were ranked #5 by the Associated Press but were on probation by the NCAA and left out of the Coaches' Poll. As a result, they did not play in a bowl game. Their final game of the season against Arkansas was treated as a bowl game and dubbed the "Polyester Bowl" as SMU crushed #16 ranked Arkansas 32-18 at Razorbacks Stadium to wrap up one of the truly dominant seasons in the NCAA in 1981.
