This lot features a factory sealed 1989 Fleer Baseball Set Case with 15 complete sets. This Case is ‘Factory Sealed’ (Never Opened) and has been stored in a heated and dry storage since it was purchased in 1989. The Case is in the Near Mint to Mint + (NM/MT+) condition range with SHARP CORNERS and SIDES. The only qualifier on the case is the ’89 Fleer Fac. Sets’ written with a sharpie on one end of the case.
The 1989 Fleer Baseball Complete Set Checklist includes 660 Player Cards plus a 12 card highlights set of the 1988 World Series. The World Series set is only available in the Factory Hobby Sets.
The Star Rookie Cards ‘RC’ of the 1989 Fleer are Ken Griffey Jr., Craig Biggio, Randy Johnson and John Smoltz who will all be selected as members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame (HOF). Other Rookie Cards in the 1989 Fleer product include Ramon Martinez, Gary Sheffield, Sandy Alomar Jr, Dante Bichette and Tom Gordon to name a few
The 1989 Fleer Checklist also contains many other HOF members from this era including Mike Schmidt, Eddie Murray, George Brett, Ryne Sandberg, Nolan Ryan, Robin Yount, Cal Ripken, Ozzie Smith, Greg Maddux and Tony Gwynn.
Other All-time Greats include Barry Bonds, Don Mattingly, Roger Clemens and Mark McGwire to name a few.
This 1989 Fleer Set also includes the ‘controversial’ Billy Ripken Card (#616) which was originally published with a four letter word imprinted on the ‘bat knob’. The Card was quickly reprinted and several different variations (4) were printed (most common version of this card being a black box covering the ’bat knob).
