Offered in this featured lot is one of the most difficult to obtain baseball cards in the hobby, the Eddie Plank T206 Sweet Caporal Card. Encapsulated and certified Authentic by professional sports card grader PSA, this historic cardboard treasure will be forever compared to the famed T206 Honus Wagner in terms of rarity. This white bordered tobacco insert card of Eddie Plank is the second most valuable baseball card in our hobby. The offered example is head and shoulders above nearly all of them in terms of refinement and preservation as it delivers outstanding, radiant quality in its blue backgrounded portrait illustration. The top and bottom edges concede irregularities in cut (a bowed effect at the top, abbreviation at the bottom), but these barely detract from the piece’s visual essence. The "Sweet Caporal - 150 subjects" advertisement adorning this sought after card's reverse boasts wonderful clarity in its red inking, and the surround is nicely toned with a few spots of mild staining. None of the card’s nominal discrepancies threaten the piece’s superior and warm overall appeal. This is a tremendous example of the T206 White Border issue's 2nd most desirable card. Second only to the Honus Wagner which recently sold at auction for 1.2 million dollars in a VG 3 condition. To date, there have been a miniscule total of only 28 T206 Sweet Caporal Eddie Plank cards graded by PSA with the Near Mint/Mt 8 booking at a whopping $490,000. Compare that to the 539 Ty Cobb cards graded and you begin to get an idea of why this card is so desired by collectors. What an amazing addition this would be to any high end card collection that may be missing this rare gem.
