Charles "Pete" Conrad Jr. was an American astronaut and naval aviator who is best known for his role in the Apollo 12 mission, the second manned mission to land on the moon. Born in 1930 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Conrad began his career as a naval officer and test pilot before being selected as an astronaut by NASA in 1962. He went on to participate in several space missions, including the Gemini 5 and Gemini 11 missions, before commanding the Apollo 12 mission in 1969. Conrad was widely admired for his bravery, skill, and dedication to space exploration, and was awarded numerous honors and accolades throughout his career.
