This coveted lot features a 6.5 x 8.5” first generation wire service photo of Babe Ruth batting against the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1926 World Series, his bat following through over his right shoulder and his head tilted to the right watching the ball in flight. Behind him, St. Louis Cardinals catcher Bob O’Farrell and the home plate ump also follow the ball, as do the players in the visiting dugout and well-dressed fans behind the dugout. On verso is a slew of stampings by Underwood & Underwood Photos, pencil markings and an affixed caption identifying the image as being taken on Oct. 9, 1926 and the 6th inning of Game 6. The photo remains in good condition, especially when you consider that it is only a decade short of being 100 years old. This photo originally sold at auction in December of 2005 and has since been beautifully matted. We've included the original sale information. Extremely rare Babe Ruth item featuring him in action during the World Series in the prime of his career.
