The 1946 Senators baseball team was a historic team that represented the city of Washington D.C. in the American League. The Senators finished the regular season with a record of 76-78, good for fourth place in the American League. The team was led by first baseman Mickey Vernon, who won the American League batting title with a .353 average, and starting pitcher Early Wynn, who finished the season with a 22-11 record and a 2.68 ERA. Despite not making the playoffs, the 1946 Senators were notable for being the first Washington baseball team to finish with a winning record in over a decade. The team's success helped reinvigorate baseball in the nation's capital and paved the way for the Senators' future success, including their first and only World Series championship in 1924.
